Gardening in Nueva Andalucía: irrigation and lawns
In the Golf Valley, the irrigation system does most of the work in summer. When it fails, a lawn can turn brown within days, so regular checks of sprinklers, drippers and timers are the best protection.
Slopes need thought too. Water runs downhill, so the top of a bank can be dry while the bottom stays wet.
- Check sprinkler heads and timers every few weeks during the summer.
- Set separate irrigation zones for the lawn, the beds and the slopes.
- Trim privacy hedges two or three times a year to keep them dense.
- Scarify and feed lawns in autumn, once the heat has passed.
